| Done on a whim after hearing about an upcoming "Tricycle Race"
our Police Chief is going to enter to promote the new Police Bike Patrol,
this little Trike is quite different that what I've done before.
I am thinking of either entering or making it available to the Chief
for his entry depending on how the fund raiser is planned. If nothing else
I hope to have it there to help out.
Current thinking as of 07/02/2005 is to paint the chassis white, black
handle bars, and put POLICE on the top bar but then again I might not..

| I ended up with these two mag wheels off a last minute ebay item for $18
total w/ shipping for both and wasn't sure what I'd ever do with them.
Then this idea came up and I had a perfect solution. This is a first rough
up of an idea. |
 |
| The top tube is just stuck in there. I plan on using 1 3/4" tube
likely with a flat top from the steering tube and then dropping down to
the seat post. The flat bars look cool BUT there wasn't anyway I could get
the pedals up there and my feet at the same time with those bars. |
 |
| Here the front mount 'bottom' bracket is in place with one pipe. It will
need another brace from the forks to the extra bit of pipe hanging
there to make it more sturdy with my welding.
I played with the idea of mounting the bottom bracket behind the forks
but had issues with pedals hitting the down tube and just getting your
legs lined up right. |
 |
| Front view. Hopefully it won't be too crooked (ha ha)..
considering I just eyeballed it and tacked it together. Likely I'll cut
out the cross bar on those handle bars or replace them with some bigger
ape hangers.
Here's a better view of the 16" x 3" Stingray tire up front.
The radial spoke wheel was another eBay item from a couple years ago I
never got around to doing anything with since we didn't have a matching
front. Now it *IS* a front - lol.
No chain adjustment up there right now so hopefully things will line up
correctly. Otherwise an idler or tension device might have to stuck in
there somewhere. |
 |
| Rear shot. The rear 'knobby' tires will be replaced with
some smoothie 'Vertster' tires or something other than knobs. The wheels
have 14mm sealed bearings and roll very nice. I used a piece or bar stock
I had that fits the bearings and welded it up solid to the rear.
I also have to figure out how to cap off the rear wheel axle since I
will be cutting down the bar stock. I was thinking of trying to find some
of those press on caps like on the cheap little trikes for that size but
not sure if they are available in this size.
Likely will end up with a 'cushy' seat there as well since you butt is
used more in this semi-recumbent position. |
