I seem to like little four servo bipeds don't I? From TED, NED, SirRobot, Eyer, and now PunkBoB, I like these little fellers.
PunkBoB is basically just a little more elaborate four servo walker with an old steam punk vive.
The original idea came to me when I was crusing around Thingiverse in November 2015 and ran across sgb33's Industrial Dome.
The first thing I thought of wasn't Industrial Dome at all, it was, "Hey that looks like a Robot head!".
With that stuck in my head I couldn't leave it alone and pulled down the model and started seeing what could be done to actually make it a robot head. I don't think four servo biped was an actual thought, it just came about. Originally I was thinging that as a head on a rolling platform. The wheels would be gears and some complicated mechanism driving them through exposed gears or pulleys.
After some constructive / destructive geometry using TinkerCAD I had a reasonble robot head AND a bottom body half and lower platform. The look wasn't going to be right with regular old BoB legs and feet so I added some piping and simulated gears to things to bring out the effect.
After that the SR04 sonar just didn't look right sticking out there so I fabbed up some steampunk glasses mashing up some existing models and sizing / fitting in 3d.
